Soundproofing requirements
ESTA 000 Call Centre performs a critical role, providing 24-hour emergency call-taking and dispatch services for police, fire, ambulance, and SES in Victoria. Often answering more than 2.7 million calls for assistance per year, or a call every 11 seconds, speech clarity is crucial and essential.
When it rains, the raindrops excite the metal roof panels upon impact, the roof resonates, generating high noise. Speech clarity became a critical issue at ESTA, especially during a heavy downpour. Places like this, demand speech intelligibility. A reliable and highly effective damping solution was required.
To significantly reduce such rain noise, Megasorber D14 was specified and installed on the top side of the existing metal roof.
Features

- Reduces panel vibration and resonant noise effectively.
- Easy to apply—just peel and stick.
- Suitable for high-temperature applications up to 120°C.
- Low or non-fire hazard.
- Excellent heat reflector and thermal insulator.
Installation
The Megasorber D14 was cut to size with Megasorber CNC cutting machines. ESTA’s 670m2 metal roof was pressure washed. The D14 release liner was gradually peeled off and the damping sheets were applied to the metal roof. After the initial contact, using a small roller, the pressure was applied to maximise the contact between the Megasorber D14 and the metal roof sheets, also freeing any trapped air. Installation was completed by March 2022.
