Sound absorbing panel features

patented sound absorption system

Superior acoustic performance

The Megasorber FM panel utilises a patented non-combustible sound-absorbing facing material, Soundmesh® G8, to achieve superior sound absorption.

Soundmesh® G8 facing breaks the soundwave down into smaller components and then traps and dissipates the soundwave within the foam behind it. The acoustic impedance of G8 is tuned to maximise sound absorption.

In contrast, traditional sound-reflecting film facings, such as aluminum foil, Mylar film, and polyurethane film, offer minimal or no acoustic properties. These materials prevent noise from being absorbed by the underlying foam, reducing overall sound absorption effectiveness.

Superior fire resistance

Superior Fire Resistance with Zero Afterglow and No Flaming Droplets when exposed to fire.

Megasorber FM has NCC or Building Code Australia (BCA) Group 1 fire rating as per AS 5637.1-2015 and ISO 5660 Group 1 fire classification. Furthermore, the international fire ratings are as follows:

  • United States Standard: ASTM E84-21a Classification A
  • European fire standard: BS EN 13501-1 Classification of B-s2d0

It has a non-combustible acoustic fabric Soundmesh G8 facing and an inherently fire-resistant thermoset foam core.  Megasorber FM acoustic panel does not ignite, melt, or drip when exposed to fire.  A demonstration video is shown below.

Exceptionally high thermal insulation

Megasorber FM is engineered with an extremely fine cell structure to trap air and block heat transfer. It provides exceptional thermal insulation, making it one of the most effective lightweight thermal insulation materials, especially for soffit thermal insulation requirements.

Heat, aging and UV resistant

The Megasorber FM has a thermoset base foam that has excellent heat, UV and aging resistance. It can withstand up to 240°C (short time) without decomposition and up to 140°C continuous operating temperature without distortion. Megasorber FM is durable (long service life) in hot and humid conditions such as marine and tropical environments.

Water-repellent G8 facing (optional)

A fluid/water-repellent Soundmesh® G8 is also available. The built-in fluid/water repellent property (optional) of Soundmesh® G8 provides easy cleaning and maintenance, making it ideal for outdoor applications.

Handling, installation and maintenance

Megasorber FM acoustic panel is extremely lightweight and self-supporting, making it easy to handle, cut and install. The Soundmesh® G8 facing is protective, tough and durable. Finger marks, dirt marks and surface contamination can be easily removed and cleaned using Megasorber Clean M8 block.
